Process: Surface Treatment
Lasers are good heat sources often used for surface hardening of various tools and surfaces.
This heat source causes the metallographic structure to change and hardens the surface to provide increased wear
resistance.
The choice of laser to be used for surface hardening is mainly dependent on the parts itself. Most
hardening applications require CW beams, such as in track hardening of most industrial tools.
Application Examples:
Track hardening of threads on industrial tools;
Turbine blade hardening;
Piston rings.
Typical Lasers for this application:
DLR Series: Direct Diode Fiber Pigtailed Laser Systems Operating at 980 nm
YLR HP Series: 500W-20kW Multi Mode High Power Ytterbium Fiber Laser @ 1070nm
