Particle Image Velocimetry System
La Vision
The PIV Systems from La Vision measure the flow’s instantaneous velocity, determining
the distance covered by particles within the time between two pulses of the laser. A
plane in the flow in movement is illuminated by a “plane laser beam” and the particles
positions in this plane are registered by one CCD camera. A fraction of second after
the first “plane laser beam”, another “plane laser beam” illuminates the same plane in
the flow and then the CCD camera captures another image recording new particles positions.
An analysis software captures and analyses the particles displacements from the region in
both images and calculates the velocity in hundreds or thousands of locations with extreme
rapidity and trustworthiness.

By this way the flow proprieties as vorticity, turbulence and tension reasons can be obtained
for the entire studied region, enabling average statistical values and of higher order to be
determined.
